Candlelight Tour of Fort Osage
Experience how the holidays were celebrated at the historic Fort in the early 19th century. Interpreters will bring the season to life during this guided candlelight tour. Enjoy seasonal beverages, snacks and other holiday-themed activities in the Education Center before or after your tour. Advance reservations are recommended as tickets are limited. The first tour will begin at 5:00 pm, with tours continuing every 20 minutes until 9:00 pm. Guests are advised to dress for the weather and wear comfortable walking shoes.
35th Annual Fall Muster
Experience Fort Osage’s favorite living history event! Soak in all the sights and sounds of a working 1810s Army post. See how men, women, and children formed a frontier community that had military and commercial connections to global events and trade. Hear military music along with the commands and orders of officers to soldiers as they go about their day and bring the past to life.

Do the ghosts of historic Fort Osage still walk the grounds? You be the judge! Join us for an exclusive after-hours experience to see if the Fort’s former residents have something to say. Paranormal investigators will lead visitors through this national landmark in search of former residents.

Wood Preservation of the Fort Osage Dugout Canoe
In early 1992, Dennis Reed, a contract truck driver working on the Big Blue River channelization project near Truman Road, contacted Jackson County Parks and Recreation and indicated that he had retrieved what he believed to be a dugout canoe from a debris pile.
Fort Osage Barracks to Receive New Wood Floors
We would like to thank long-time Fort Osage Volunteer David Bennett for his contribution to underwrite the cost of new wood floors in the Fort Osage barracks, and artificer’s shop. The barracks, except for ‘B’ and ‘C’, have had dirt floors since they were reconstructed. Dave also coordinates the Annual Fall Muster at Fort Osage and The War of 1812 in the West Symposium.

Masks and social distancing are required when you visit Fort Osage. Fort Osage National Historic Landmark is open to the public Tuesday through Sunday from 9:00 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. Information regarding Jackson Parks + Rec COVID-19 changes can be found on their website. Fort Osage National Historic Landmark has reopened to the public after being closed to help slow the spread of COVID-19. Although Fort Osage has reopened, masks and social distancing are required when you visit the site.
