Construction on Buckner Tarsney Road will be underway through December, which impacts access to Fort Osage. Detour signs are in place along 24 Highway to help guide you safely around the work zone. Please follow posted signage and allow extra travel time when visiting. Despite the detour, Fort Osage remains open and ready to welcome you—come experience history in action!

In early 1992, Dennis Reed, a contract truck driver working on the Big Blue River channelization project near Truman Road, contacted Jackson County Parks and Recreation and indicated that he had retrieved what he believed to be a dugout canoe from a debris pile.

We would like to thank long-time Fort Osage Volunteer David Bennett for his contribution to underwrite the cost of new wood floors in the Fort Osage barracks, and artificer’s shop. The barracks, except for ‘B’ and ‘C’, have had dirt floors since they were reconstructed. Dave also coordinates the Annual Fall Muster at Fort Osage and The War of 1812 in the West Symposium.
