Fort Osage Education Center

The Fort Osage Education Center.

Opened in November, 2007 the Fort Osage Education Center represents a major addition to the cultural landscape of Jackson County. Built adjacent to the reconstructed Fort Osage, the Education Center was designed to augment educational programming to the thousands of students who participate in programs at this important National Historic Landmark.
The award winning design of the Education Center meets the highest standards of contemporary environmental architecture and engineering. Features such as a vegetative roof, low water use plumbing fixtures, ultra-efficient glazing and an innovative ground source radiant heating and cooling system will help the Center achieve an anticipated Gold rating as determined by the United States Green Building Council.

The Center has a permanent exhibit area that features interactive exhibits on site geology, local flora and fauna of the early 19th century, Hopewell Indians, Osage Indians, Lewis and Clark, Fort Osage, and the Missouri River.

The Center also has special exhibit space, classroom, meeting rooms, auditorium and conservation laboratory, including archival storage.
