Society of Friends of Fort Osage Update

A Message from Bryan Everhart, President, The Society of Friends of Fort Osage:

The Society of Friends of Fort Osage finally finished our cannon project and delivered it to the Fort. It took longer than we had hoped for but it’s done.

The cannon carriage that was donated to Fort Osage.

A great big thanks goes to the 2nd Missouri Artillery Corps, LLC who made the carriage and implements for us. They’ve done an outstanding job and are a great group to work with.

Next we’d like to give another great big thanks to Fred Goss, Site administrator of Fort Osage for taking one of his days off to go to St. Louis and pick the gun up for us. This will be kept on display in the museum until needed for their interpretive programming.

On a sadder note, The Society of Friends has decided to end our groups run as of December 31st, 2022. All leftover assets are being donated to Jackson County Parks + Rec for the site. Fred Goss has provided a list that he needed for the site and those items have been purchased and have been delivered or will be soon.

We’ve been fortunate to work with some really good folks at the fort over the years, both employees and volunteers, and would like to thank all of them and wish them all well.

We’d also like to thank everyone who has supported our efforts over the years. You have made what we have done possible through your memberships, donations, and participating in our events at the fort. We greatly appreciate it. We hope to see you again at the fort.

Sincerely,

The Society of Friends of Fort Osage

Website note: This website will continue to function, with donations from various volunteers, as it has for the past twenty years.
